You can have the best site in the world with the bargain of the century, but unless you promote it no-one will find it.
How do you do that?
99% of sites on the web are found through searches. The top ones being Google and Yahoo, AltaVista, Ask, Excite and Dogpile. If you want to be listed in the results of these sites, then you need to submit your site address to them. This can take MONTHS as there are millions being constantly being added. You can however pay for inclusion (ie 'sponsored results'). You must ask "Will I earn enough from the site to justify the cost?" Other, free ways of promoting a site are on blog sites. ie just telling people about it, or responding to peoples questions, "Where can I find out about?" etc.
By far the best free way of promoting a site is with a mailing list of interested people. One I can highly recommend is Listmaster, with which you can promote your site to thousands of people each day, free of charge. This is called an opt in list. In other words, people who have given you their email address in order for you to send them advertising or newsletters. By no means should you send out advertising to anyone else by bulk marketing. That is called 'spam' and is illegal.

Search Engine Optimisation
Even if you don't make any attempt to promote your site, the 'search engines' constantly send 'spiders' or automated 'software robots' to check out your site. For this reason you should make it easy for them to list your site by creating a site map, or a single page that acts like a directory for the rest of your site.
By 'Optmising' your site you can get it listed higher on the site results.
